Overproduction Muda

The muda of overproduction is producing too much at a particular point in time.  Overproduction is characterized by producing more, earlier or faster than is needed by the next process or customer

Having the product too early, too late or in quantities that are too great, will result in undesirable consequences such as:

Extra space used

Extra raw materials in use

Extra utilities used

Extra transportation for the customer and the organization

Extra scheduling costs
